Ingredients

1 pound gnocchi (store-bought or homemade)

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Extra basil leaves for garnish

Freshly cracked black pepper for serving

Instructions

Cook the Gnocchi: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package instructions (or until they float to the surface if using homemade). Drain and set aside.

Sauté Aromatics: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once heated, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant but not browned.

Create the Sauce: Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine with the sautéed garlic. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for about 5 minutes.

Make it Creamy: Stir in the heavy cream, dried oregano, and sugar (if using). Season with salt and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for another 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Combine Gnocchi with Sauce: Add the cooked gnocchi to the sauce, tossing gently to coat each piece well. Let it simmer together for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Add Fresh Herbs and Cheese: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.

Serve: Plate the creamy tomato basil gnocchi and garnish with extra basil leaves and freshly cracked black pepper on top before serving.
